Practical Guide: Pages, Content & Structure

Your website structure is like scaffolding, it sustains elements from your brand and helps you create the hierarchical relations for them

In this article we included a practical checklist for structuring your website, with the most basic basic elements that are expected by users, and how to approach it modularly


Core Pages


We recommend having at least the following pages:

  • Home 

  • About 

  • Contact

You don’t need all of these at once, is ok to start slow, receive feedback and iterate

At minimum they allow you to a few sentences, colors and images to earn the trust of your visitors


Optional, but Powerful


As your journey goes, you can start writing additional pages for more interested readers, content marketing strategies, and online sales


Blogs & Updates 


If you enjoy writing, or can afford a writer, having a blog is a fantastic way to keep your readership engaged, provide value and support your brand

A blog can be:

  • Updates and Announcements

  • Documentation

  • Reflections

  • Guest posts and collaborations

  • Anecdotes, photo galleries

  • Recipes, crafting, test results

You don’t need to post often. Consistency matters more than frequency. Some companies only have a few posts where they expand on topics they consider important but are not essential for the core pages


Products & Services Pages


If you're selling a product or service, e-commerce is fairly easy nowadays

When you're describing products, be mindful to:

  • Be clear about what’s included

  • Set expectations

  • Avoid vague language

At this stage you're drafting the structure, don't worry too much about the details, keep it simple to and gather 


Newsletter Signup 


Most web platforms include a way for you to gather visitor emails, similar to the blog, you can write periodic email updates to keep your audience engaged

The format is very flexible and can allow you to: 

  • Offer classes as series of articles

  • Share testimonials and updates

  • Offer seasonal discounts and products

  • Announce new products

  • Tour dates


Structure Tips


  • Use clear headings

  • Short paragraphs

  • Plain language

  • Mobile-friendly layouts

If someone scrolls quickly, they should still understand you


Placeholder Ideas


You can select placeholder text to start creating your structure, and pad the pages, without compromising your brand

This that you can include:

  • Movie quotes

  • Inspirational quotes

  • Reviewing articles from other publications

  • Stock pictures

  • Youtube videos

Having content that aligns with your voice fosters community with the readers who relate and have a similar appreciation for the original source
